In today’s Gospel we read about sheep without the shepherd,
why St. Mark uses this sentence is because there were 5000 people but no one
was there to guide them. There came at the scene a person named Jesus, He was a
shepherd who took care of these sheep and gave them spiritual food.

However His disciples were worried and concerned about
physical food, Jesus shows compassion to them and gives them food. There is a
stark contrast between that time and today’s world. Now we are living in a
luxurious world, we fail to give our things to others, everyday some portion of
our food lands up in the dustbin like that of the rich man and Lazarus parable.
We neglect the poor, the beggar who comes to our door and also sometimes hurt
them by our words.
Jesus calls us to be good shepherds to our neighbours
especially those who are weak, downtrodden, suffering and the lonely.
