Today’s Gospel tells us about the homage of Jesus by the 3 wise men with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These gifts tell something of Jesus. Gold is one of the expensive metals and hence can be affordable by the rich people, merchants and kings. Jesus is a humble king born in a humble stable. The gift gold talks of the Kingship of Jesus.
Frankincense was offered to God. Jesus is the high priest
who made the way open for sinful people to go to God.
Myrrh was a gift which was embalmed to a dying person. Myrrh talks about the death of Jesus; Jesus was the only person who came to the world to die for his people.
Today the feast of Epiphany I must ask myself a question. What gift can I give Jesus today?
