We are in the first week of Lent. It’s a time of prayer,
fasting and almsgiving as recommended in the Gospel. The Church gifts us with
this special season of Lent to realize our wrong doings and to reconcile and
return to the Lord. In today’s readings Jonah is sent to the people of Nineveh with the message of repentance; the people of Nineveh take the warning
seriously and repent wholeheartedly and God relents them from the disaster that
was to befall them. In the Gospel, Jesus makes a very hard accusation saying
that this generation is wicked and only seeks for signs. We need to live by
faith and not ask for signs and wonders.
Reflective question: Is my faith strong or does it require
signs?
